The ROTATION R 30.3 at a glance

Our first record players were almost 32 years in the making. Not a moment too long, we think, to mature. We call them ROTATION.

The AVM R 30.3 is the youngest member of the AVM turntable family and offers a perfect analogue complement to the AVM 30 line of devices introduced as part of AVM’s 30th anniversary. The typical AVM design language has been elegantly incorporated, making the device suitable not only as an addition to existing AVM systems, but also as an entry into the AVM analogue world.

The success story started at High End 2018 with the introduction of two AVM turntables:

The top model, the ROTATION R 5.3, sets numerous technical and innovative accents in terms of turntable. One example is the elaborate Elipso-Centric belt-drive. Not only the spring-loaded turntable, but especially the 10” tonearm developed by AVM and made of highly polished aluminium components are sound, technological and aesthetic delicacies of the R 5.3.

The R 2.3 was released at the same time as the R 5.3, which now serves as a direct source of ideas for the development of the new AVM R 30.3. Based on design features of the R 2.3, the R 30.3 borrows several clear ideas from this model. The highlight of the R 30.3 is the identically adopted 9” tonearm with its sophisticated detail solutions. This tonearm is a completely AVM design. It effortlessly supports all known cartridge systems on the world market. It is also possible to mount AVM’s own high-quality Cadenza cartridges, showing the full potential of the tonearm.

The stable, ultra low mass tonearm is based on a solid, refined aluminium tube. Together with the stable and precise tonearm bearing, it provides the basis for a powerful sound. The silicone-damped counterweight effectively prevents micro-vibrations from being reflected back towards the tonearm and the pick-up system, thus guaranteeing a pure, clearly defined sound image.

Common to all Rotation turntable models are the frames, which are made of heavy composite material (in varying thicknesses). These frames are made of cement-powdered HDF, glued together with hand-ground anodised aluminium parts and thus additionally stiffened. The use of these different materials creates a vibration-damping sandwich construction that provides an almost completely resonance-free, solid base for the frosted and internally illuminated acrylic turntable. The precise upside-down bearings are further precision parts that are mainly responsible for the remarkably smooth running of the R 30.3. An intelligent, fully electronic look-forward servo control allows the turntable to rotate precisely and constantly.

As an ideal playing partner, we recommend our phono modules, which are available in the AVM units or can be added on a modular basis, or the new AVM PH 30.3, a phono equaliser that can be adapted for MM and MC systems as a stand-alone solution.
