When we planning on what to put together State 3 for this year’s Melbourne show, we didn’t want to do what we usually do. Most rooms at a hi-fi show are a single brand, a single system, a single story. You walk in, you hear something impressive, you walk out. That’s fine. But it’s not the whole picture of what high-end audio actually is.
What we’ve learned in our years running Sound Gallery is that there isn’t one “right” way to reproduce music. There are philosophies. There are arguments. There are engineers who look at the same problem—getting music out of a groove—and arrive at completely different conclusions. That’s what State 3 is about.
We started this idea of multi-system room last year, and this year we have improved it by showcasing something different for everyone by showcasing five systems.
