Linn Klimax Solo 500 Monoblock Power Amplifier
Solo 800 too tall for your rack? Linn’s got you.
You’d be forgiven for thinking of the new Klimax Solo 500 monoblock is an upgrade of the original Klimax Solo 500, considering they share the same name – but the new 2025 Solo 500 is actually a down-scaled Klimax Solo 800. Linn have “expertly miniaturised” their flagship amplifier into a compact low-profile chassis that includes all their latest cutting-edge technology.
Adaptive Bias Control
During operation, the optimum bias current is established intelligently in real-time. The current supplied to each of the eight output transistors is measured, sampled and digitised continuously. It is then passed to an FPGA processor which calculates the requisite bias at that precise moment. The FPGA simultaneously implements a digital control loop to adjust and hold bias current at its measured optimum for the transistors.
Hybrid Cooling Matrix
An aluminium block and thermal plate act as a sub-chassis structure, aided by machined fins that dissipate heat through the outer casework’s gills. Even the internal electronics are mounted upside-down to assist in cooling.
When the amp is driven hard, a real-time controlled FPGA processor manages a pair of ultra-quiet fans that are positioned to force cool air around the network of channels in the fin matrix.
Utopik Power Supply
Specially optimised for Solo 500, Utopik only delivers the power necessary to produce the wave at the requested volume, thanks to a savvy implementation of auto-voltage rail technology. This helps to reduce heat generation inside the chassis, and overall power consumption.
